Formation pressure

Reservoir characterisation and understanding reservoir fluid dynamics is fundamental for effective reservoir management. Identifying active formation zones, distinguishing fracture and matrix flows, and understanding fluid movement from the reservoir to the wellbore is essential for optimal recovery

TGT’s Spectral Reservoir Platform (SRP*) is able to diagnose reservoir problems away from the wellbore, through multiple strings and deep in the reservoir. Our range of logging services can provide real reservoir answers for up to 5 m (15 ft) away from the borehole. These answers include: fluid breakthrough identification, injection and production profiling, stimulation efficiency evaluation and formation pressure determination behind multiple casings.

Formation pressure is one of the most important parameters in the oil and gas industry. Reservoir and production engineers, among others, have particular interest in this parameter, as it affects dynamic reservoir properties, drainage volumes, fluid phase behaviour and other factors. These parameters impact reservoir energy, reserves and ultimately the economics of a particular asset. Once the well is completed, there are limitations in determining formation pressure. Traditionally, pressure surveys require pressure gauges, packers, shutting-in the well, and deferring production, yet such measurements are at high risk of poor accuracy due to possible communication between layers at the reservoir level. TGT's Spectral Pressure (SPEC-FP*) is a service that measures the noise power of the fluid flow in active reservoir streaks at different choke sizes and flowing pressures. This information is put into TGT’s proprietary software (Polygon*) to determine the formation pressure of a particular flowing zone. This operation is performed rigless and does not require shutting in the well, producing massive savings to our customers both operationally and in terms of production deferrals.
